Sr. Systems Engineer (SE) – Palo Alto, CA

The SE will be customer-facing and will need to develop an extremely deep understanding of Pica8’s Network OS helping to build Pica8’s next generation Software Defined Networking (SDN) vision, and solve complex customer problems. Also this role will develop a keen understanding of customer requirements and challenges, work out solutions, and advance the sales cycle as part of the sales team. This position will report to Director of Sales Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Have the ability to see the ‘big picture’ and articulate internally and externally how all the technical initiatives come together; detail oriented to make the solution viable and working
  • Must be able to articulate product capabilities and value proposition to customers in both architectural and operational voices
  • Craft deployment architectures and proof of concept demonstrations that highlight Pica8’s competitive differentiation
  • Help document solutions and architectures, responses to RFI / RFP
  • Manage complex deployments for the highest levels of customer satisfaction while positioning for new revenue opportunities and ongoing renewals
  • Apply minimally necessary programming/scripting for success
  • Routinely demonstrate proactive and tenacious approach to customer success by aligning customer and Pica8 objectives for a win-win outcome

Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Additional language skill is a plus
  • In-depth understanding of routing and switching protocols, including how data center architects leverage these technologies
  • Hands on configuration experience with any major networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper, Arista) with deep knowledge in routing and switching, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Spanning Tree and OpenFlow
  • Relevant knowledge including but not limited to Cloud technology, SDN, NFV, network virtualization, OpenStack, OpenDaylight
  • Ability to perform simple programming or scripting, including Chef / Puppet, Python and Linux Shell
  • Understanding customer’s sales cycle, test, procure, maintain and decommission network – software and hardware
  • Dev-ops experience is an advantage
  • Must be able to coordinate across various groups and functional teams
  • Performs tasks with little to no supervision
  • 20% – 30% traveling, including some international travel

Education and Experience:

  • Typically requires a BS/BA or equivalent
  • Advanced industry certifications helpful (CCIE, JNCIE etc.)
  • Network capacity planning, modeling, and traffic optimization experience preferred including tools (SFlow, NetFlow, etc.)
  • Customer interface experience required in a relevant role
  • 8+ years in the industry with related experience, 5+ years in a Systems/Sales Engineering or equivalent role
